What's Going Through The Intersection of Insurance and Technology?

ICTA 2014: The Total Connectedness of IT All
Reviewing the 2014 ICTA insurer nominations, we were struck by two related themes. First, it is not a specific technology or implementation that is important, but how systems and processes can be brought together to achieve objectives. Second, these objectives have more to do with the customer world then the inner world of the insurer. The message to us is clear: award-winning insurers will be those whose business and technology focus has shifted from incremental progress gained from internal improvements to more fundamental innovation which will be tested in the real world outside the doors of the enterprise.

Hybrid Clouds, Integration, and the Cost of Gas
Advancements in cloud computing have create new opportunities and real dangers for insurers. Lower cost of ownership, ease of maintenance, and the ability to focus on core competencies must be balanced against legal risk and data security. Regardless, I believe it is inevitable that our technology solutions of the future will be delivered in hybrid mode; that is, some elements will be installed on premise while other pieces will be delivered in the cloud.

Ingle: Need a hotel? When insurers pay for room service
Winter has brought flight and other travel delays. It has sucked heat and light from homes across a wide swath of North America. It has brought trees and power lines crashing down. Many folks fled drafty air terminals and frigid homes, preferring to stay in comfy hotel rooms. Others toughed it out, not realizing their insurer might have paid for room service and housekeeping.
