In my first insurance job, I supported agents, one of whom refused to put Insurance Agent on his cards. He said, “People will think I just sell insurance.” A top producer heard this, and said, “Are you afraid you might actually sell some?” This reminds me of a challenge facing insurance IT and Sales today.

“Building a start-up is like having your first child,” says Rajeev Kugan, a new father and co-founder of an emerging start-up in the insurance technology (InsTech) space called ClientDesk. I am the other co-founder. Together, we are introducing something new which, we believe, will disrupt the insurance industry.

As entrepreneurs in the start-up space, being relatively “new parents” in the game, we needed all the support we could get. A business incubator is a “home” for new companies and start-ups. It provides work space, training programs, advisory resources and funding opportunities to take start-up businesses to market.

IBC shares top tips for preventing fires and saving lives
To help launch this year's Fire Prevention Week, Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is reminding people about its top 10 tips for preventing fires and saving lives. "While wildfire was a significant threat over the summer months, in the fall and winter months, house fires become more prevalent," said Bill Adams, Vice-President, Western and Pacific, IBC. "In fact, data shows that, on average, home fires account for 30% of all fires and 73% of all fire-related deaths in Canada. This Fire Prevention Week, follow the steps below to help prevent a fire in your home – it could save a life."

The Co-operators: New service encourages young men to access mental health support
Young men going through a difficult time now have access to a new support zone designed specifically for guys aged 14 to 18. With the help of sponsors including The Co-operators, Kids Help Phone launched BroTalk™, which includes professional counselling, a mobile-friendly website and a downloadable chat app. Young men account for three quarters of all suicides among those between the ages of 15 and 24.
