From Doug

Another year – another quarter century.

In my 50+ years involved with technology in insurance in Canada, the use of technology across the insurance business continues to increase ever more dramatically.

In 2025, these industry trends stood out for me:

1. Parametric insurance is growing, although quietly.

2. Embedded insurance is drawing additional focus and carries predictions of rapid growth.

3. AI Agents jumped from nowhere to the centre of attention.

4. Agentic systems, the collaboration among a group of AI Agents, seems to be where we are headed – e.g., Chubb recently shared plans to scale back its workforce by as much as 20% as it implements more AI processes over the next few years.

5. Increased personalization is changing the relationship between insurance and its customers, – in marketing and communications, and also in underwriting.

6. Sensors are one enabler of the evolution of insurance to predict/detect and prevent/mitigate losses.

The transformation of insurance continues ... or perhaps we have just been transforming processes thus far, and the real transformation of insurance as a product/service is only just beginning.

As Insurance-Canada.ca takes a holiday break until the new year, we wish you and yours the best for the season.
